Danger | Risk of death when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) | Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines.
Danger | Risk of explosion/risk of fire caused by highly flammable materials in the vicinity of damaged xenon bulbs. Risk of injury caused by UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters produced by bursting xenon bulbs. Risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by swallowing of/skin contact with toxic salts and mercury compounds. | Do not touch parts conducting high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off the entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the danger zone. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area.

1 | Buffer basic data of xenon headlamp control unit in STAR DIAGNOSIS | When replacing the left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2) on vehicles with code 614 (Bi-xenon headlamps).
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory | ||
Installation: Transfer buffered basic data to new xenon headlamp control unit.
2 | Open engine hood and move to vertical position
3.1 | Release front bumper (1) at front | When removing left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2).
3.2 | Remove front bumper (1). | When removing left front lamp unit (E1) and right front lamp unit (E2).
4 | Mask off front bumper (1) with suitable adhesive tape (2) in the area of left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2). | When removing left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2).
5 | Unscrew screw (6) on left or right and remove telescopic nozzle (7) towards the rear | In vehicles with code 600 (Headlamp cleaning system)
Installation: Ensure correct seating of guide (9) in left front lamp unit (E1) or left front lamp unit (E2).
6 | Remove screws/bolts (3, 4, 5)
7 | Disconnect electrical connector (8) from left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2)
8 | Remove left front lamp unit (E1) and right front lamp unit (E2) towards the front | Installation: Align left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2) so that the distances between the fender and the closed hood are equal.
9 | Install in the reverse order
10 | Check headlamp adjustment and if necessary correct
