Danger | Risk of death when working on component parts and systems with U >= 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U >= 60 V direct voltage (DC) | Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines.
Danger | Risk of explosion/risk of fire caused by highly flammable materials in the vicinity of damaged xenon bulbs. Risk of injury caused by UV light, hot components on xenon headlamps and glass splinters produced by bursting xenon bulbs. Risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of mercury vapors and by swallowing of/skin contact with toxic salts and mercury compounds. | Do not touch parts conducting high voltage. Persons with active electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must never work on xenon headlamps. Switch off the entire lighting system. Wear insulated safety shoes, safety glasses and protective gloves. Remove highly inflammable materials from the danger zone. Ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area.
1 | Switch off ignition and remove the transmitter key from the EIS [EZS] control unit | In vehicles with code 889 (KEYLESS-GO): Press the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off.
2 | Open hood | ||
3 | Remove cover (1) from left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2) | Observe rotation direction information on cap (1).
4 | Twist to unlock xenon headlamp ignition module (E1n2, E2n2) and remove
Note direction of rotation information on the rear of the xenon headlamp ignition module.
The electrical connector (2) is automatically disconnected during removal.
5 | Check power supply contact points for corrosion | If necessary, replace corroded parts.
| Install | ||
6 | Position xenon headlamp ignition module (E1n2, E2n2) and twist to lock | Note installation position and direction of rotation information on the rear of the xenon headlamp ignition module.
7 | Connect electrical connector (2)
8 | Attach cover (1) to left front lamp unit (E1) or right front lamp unit (E2) | Check seal in cap for damage and wear, replace if necessary.
Observe rotation direction information on cap.
9 | Close engine hood |
