Remove/install

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.

Completely empty compressed-air system.

Remove wheels from axle concerned.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the rear axle.

Support vehicle at frame.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensors.

Disconnect plug couplings from brakepad wear sensor (15).


Pull off and push on the plugs in an axial direction only.
Otherwise the connector couplings could be damaged and the relevant brake caliper would need to be replaced.

Remove compressed-air lines from combination brake cylinder.

Remove compressed-air lines from interaxle differential lock connection (14) and interwheel differential lock connection (18).

Remove plugs from interaxle differential lock connection (14) and interwheel differential lock connection (18).

Remove bleed line from top of axle housing.

Disconnect linkage.

On axle housing, detach secured lines and tie up to the side.

 Detach the compressed air distributor if necessary.

Secure propeller shafts against falling down and remove from drive and output flange of rear axle.

Raise rear axle using lifting device far enough until leaf springs (2) are relieved of load, and secure against tilting over.

Remove shock absorbers (4) from link brackets (6).

Remove trailing arms (7) from link brackets (6).

Secure wishbone control arm (17) against falling down and remove from bearing bracket on axle housing.

Unscrew link brackets (6) and remove together with bushes (5).

 Link bracket with elastomer bearing to rear axle

Lower rear axle and pull out from under vehicle.

Install in the reverse order.
