 The operations are similar for axles HD 4/D and HD 4/DG. However, the 1st rear axle is removed towards the front, and the 2nd rear axle is removed towards the rear

Drain the oil from the axle housing to be removed



Lift the vehicle and support it on trestles beneath the stringers, in front of and behind the rear axle

Slightly support the axle to be removed on the appropriate lifting device

Remove the pivot pins (3) from the rods of the combined cylinders (4) and push away the rods

 Keep the pneumatic system loaded and the handbrake released.

 Installation: Lubricate the pins and assemble new cotter pins.

Depressurize the pneumatic system through the tanks

Loosen the hose line (2) connections from the combined cylinders (4)

 Installation: Install new sealing washers.

Remove the vent hose (1)

Disconnect the electrical (17) and pneumatic (18) connections from the longitudinal lock

 Installation: Install new sealing washers.

Loosen the self-locking nuts (15) and remove the combined cylinders (4)

 Note the correct mounting position.

Loosen the propeller shaft (13) from the drive pinion coupling flange (14)

 Mark the position of the propeller shaft (13) in relation to the drive pinion coupling flange (14) relative to the notched, to prevent changing the original balance.

Remove the pins and release the cables (8) from the axle

 Installation: Lubricate the pins and assemble new cotter pins.

Remove the screws (7) and release the upper tie bar (5)

 Only on the rear axle to be removed.

Remove the screws (7) and release both lower tie bars (16)

 Only on the rear axle to be removed.
