Remove/install

Remove voltage of high-voltage on-board electrical system.

Secure vehicle on vehicle lift.

Deactivate easy entry and exit feature.

Turn steering wheel into center position and fix in place using holding device.


Do not turn steering wheel with steering coupling removed.
Otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.

Remove main circuit coolant expansion reservoir and place to one side with lines attached.

Remove auxiliary circuit coolant expansion reservoir and place to one side with lines attached.

Remove right and left trim in engine compartment.

Mount engine support fixture.

Remove front axle shafts and secure steering knuckle using tensioning strap to strut rod.

The steering knuckles must not fold outwards after they are detached from the upper transverse control arms.
Otherwise ball joints may be damaged.

Remove front right brakepad wear sensor and hang to one side.

Detach suspension struts from spring links.

Detach brackets of electrical wiring harnesses from spring links and axle carrier, and place to one side.

Remove left and right front axle rpm sensor line holder from front axle carrier (14) and hook up to one side with electric lines attached.

Remove rear fender liner from front fender.

Remove front bumper.

Remove engine compartment lining.

Disconnect and unclip electrical connector (1) from impact absorber (2).

Unscrew bolts (3) and remove impact absorber (2).

Secure radiator package (4) against falling down using tensioning strap.


Do not tighten tensioning strap too much.
Otherwise the components can be damaged.

Unscrew bolts (6) of radiator mount (5) and fold up and remove radiator mount (5).

Remove bolts_(7).

Remove holders (8).

Remove bolts (21) and remove struts (22).

 Bolt, strut (impact absorber) to front axle carrier

Remove screw (9).

Unclip coolant hose (10) from holder (11).

Disconnect electrical connectors (12) from steering gear and expose electrical wiring harness (13) on front axle carrier (14).

Disconnect steering coupling.

Remove front crossmember from high-voltage battery.

Unscrew bolt (15) and remove high-voltage battery coolant pump (/M7510) with electrical wiring harness from front axle carrier (14) and place to one side with lines attached.

Expose trim on high-voltage battery until the nuts (17) are accessible.

Remove nuts (17) of struts (18).

Remove bolts (19) of bearings of right major assembly carrier from front axle carrier (14).

Remove bolts (19) of bearings of left major assembly carrier from front axle carrier (14).

Lift up axle drive module with engine support fixture until the guide pins of the bearings are fully extended out of the front axle carrier (14).

Position lifting platform on front axle and secure front axle using tensioning strap.




Carefully lower front axle.
Otherwise adjacent components may be damaged.
