| Remove and install | ||
The front shock absorbers interfere in the vehicle's steering behavior, therefore, it is very important that the shock absorbers of a same axle are replaced always in pairs, i.e., replace the shock absorbers of both sides of the vehicle.
1 | Put the vehicle on a flat and leveled floor where it will be possible to work with safety | Choke the front wheels of the vehicle to avoid its accidental movement. Take further care to lift the vehicle if the vehicle is load.
2 | Disconnect the negative battery cable or turn the general switch off | Disconnect the negative cable of the battery, unfastening its end from the chassis frame. Avoid to disconnect the negative cable end which is fastened to the battery.
Danger! | Risk of injury due to been caught or smashed by the tilting cabin | During the cabin tilting operation to and fro, do not go inside the area in which the cabin tilts and adopt preventive measures to prevent non-authorized people to go there. Always tilt the cabin up to its final position and lock it there with the safety device.
3 | Tilt the cabin to make the access easier
Do not lift the vehicle by the front axles center point.
4 | Remove the self-locking nuts with flange (5), the fastening bolts with flange (9), the metallic washers (4) and remove the shock absorber (1). | Install: Utilize new self-locking nuts with flange and tighten them up to the specified tightening moment.
| |||
5 | Remove the mounts (12) with the metallic bushings (11) from the shock absorber's adapters (eye bolts) | Replace the mounts (12) with the metallic bushings (11). During the assemblage, put a light layer of Vaseline and use a press.
6 | If necessary to remove the lower support (6) from the spring adapter (10): Unfasten the self-locking nut with flange (7), remove the bolt with flange (8) and remove the support (6). | Install: Utilize a new self-locking nut with flange.
| |||
| Check | ||
7 | Check the condition of the shock absorbers | Replace the shock absorbers that present the following damages: Leak signs Worn rod Crumpled body Loosen or deformed eye bolts Damaged mounts When submitted to tests in appropriate equipment and the equipment indicates faults in the shock absorber
If necessary, replace the shock absorbers supports fastened to the longitudinal member
8 | Install in reverse order | The front shock absorbers interfere in he vehicle's steering behavior, and therefore it is very important that the shock absorbers of the same axle are replaced always in pairs, i.e., replace the shock absorbers of both sides of the vehicle.
9 | Carry out a test drive and check the vehicle behavior. | Check the vehicle's behavior. |
