Remove air filter housing (1).

Remove splash guard from front of wheelhousing and front subframe.

Remove front bumper (2).

Secure radiator (11).

 Do not damage radiator-mounted components. Use suitable strap to secure radiator (11) to front cross brace.

Remove clamp (3) from receiver/drier (4).

 Applies only to code H06 (air conditioning)

Remove screw/bolt (5)

Drain power-steering hydraulic system.

 Catch emerging fluid in a suitable container.

Unscrew high-pressure line (7) from power-steering pump (6).



Unscrew nut (8) from coolant pipe (9).

Remove front road wheels (10).

Detach torque strut (12) from anti-roll bar (13)

 Installation: Replace self-locking nut.



Remove bearing dish (15) and fish-plate (16).

 Installation: Replace self-locking bolts (17).

Install fish-plates (16) on correct sides. Observe installation position of fish-plates (16).



Remove track rod (19) from steering knuckle (20).



Used a suitable colored marker to identify the relative positions of the steering gear shaft (21) and the U-joint (22) (arrow).

 Installation: Align color coding (arrow) of steering gear shaft (21) and universal joint (22). The steering remains centered!

Unscrew screw/bolt (23)

 Installation: Insert universal joint (22) in the steering gear shaft (21) until the bore in the universal joint (22) aligns with the radial groove in the steering gear shaft (21). Replace bolt (23)



Remove rear engine mounts (26)

Bring removal assembly (27) into position on the front subframe (25).

 Align all terminal points.

Use a suitable strap to attach the front subframe and its ancillaries to the removal assembly.

Unscrew bolts (29) from front travel stops (33).

 Observe installation position.



Slowly lower front subframe (25).

 Rotate the steering shaft to ensure that the steering gear shaft (21) slides on and off the universal joint (22)!
Ensure that adequate clearance to the exhaust system and removed vehicle parts is available!

 Installation: Align axle/engine subframe (25) so that the bolts (30, 32) can be attached and the entry of the shaft of the steering gear (21) in the universal joint (22) is guaranteed.

Install in the reverse order



Checking

Perform wheel alignment check

Check for leaks, ensure that all fluids are at prescribed levels.
