| Information about important preliminaries | ||
1 | Generalities: The removal and installation of brackets of the springs, shock absorbers, stabilizers and other attached to the side rails, in a general way, are only removed in case of serious accidents where they are reached and deformed. All brackets attached to the side rails can be replaced with relative facility due to their standardized fastening.
2 | We recommend to carry out repairs per axle, always on both sides of the vehicle.
3 | Bolts and nuts to be utilized: All the brackets are standardized, so they are attached to the side rails with Torx type bolts and nuts (both with flange). The nuts are self-locking and may be removed and re-utilized for 5 times. If their reutilization is above 5 times, the nuts are to be replaced. In the case of replacements, the quality requirement of the flange bolts and nuts is 10.9.
The original assembly positions of the bolts are to be observed on each bracket.
4 | Contact surfaces of the brackets with the side rails:The contact surfaces are to be in perfect conditions for the seating of the components. In the case of installing new brackets, if necessary, before the assembly, apply a layer of appropriate protection primer for the contact surfaces with the side rails.
5 | Place the vehicle on a leveled place to work safely. Chock the front wheels to avoid the accidental displacement of the vehicle
6 | Turn off the general key | It concerns about electronic vehicles, always observe the recommendations for this kind of vehicles.
7 | With the vehicle on the ground, slacken the rear axle wheels. The removal of the rear wheels will be carried out later with the vehicle lifted
Danger! | Take due precautions when lifting the vehicle | Risk of serious accidents.
not suspend the vehicle by the center of the axles.
In this type of work it is necessary to support the vehicle by the side rails to be able to slightly move the rear axle. Occurs that if the axle gets hung, the shock absorbers may exceed their normal stroke and be seriously damaged without the mechanic noticing it. In this case, to avoid any damage, the shock absorbers are to be detached at the bottom part before blocking the side rails, loosening or removing the springs.
8 | Support the vehicle on safety stands placed safely under the side rails, on both sides at front and rear, permitting to work with safety. In this position, the rear axle may be moved as the work demands | The vehicle must not be lifted on only one side with the opposite wheel remaining supported by the ground. The same will have to be lifted equally on both sides.
9 | Loosen the side rods of the rear stabilizer (17) | This permits total freedom to move the rear axle.
10 | Remove the wheels corresponding to the location of the support that will be removed, should this be the case | The removal of the wheels facilitates the access of the brackets location, however, if a modern and appropriate elevator is used where the wheel remain supported, it is also possible to remove certain brackets without removing the wheels.
With the vehicle in this position, practically all rear brackets attached to the side rails can be removed.
| Remove | ||
Rear axle spring brackets and limiting stops | The rear spring brackets are fastened with the bolts (3) and (13) and the respective nuts (4) and (14), they fasten the brackets (1) and (12) and also the chassis frame cross members.
1 | At the rear springs (5) remove the flange bolts and nuts releasing the front articulations
2 | At the rear of the springs (5) remove the flange bolts from the top articulations from the shackles. At this point, the springs become free which permits moving the rear axle. Move away the ends of the springs (5) lowering the rear axle | The bolts of the shackle articulations do not utilize nuts, they are threaded into the inner metal plates, the opposite of the front spring shackle bolts. Should it be necessary to carry out a complete repair, it is preferable to remove the front springs, this procedure facilitates access a lot.
3 | At the rear part of the springs , remove the nuts (4) from inside the side rails and the bolts (3) from the outside (both have flanges) and lift off the brackets (1) from the side rails (2) | Together with the rear brackets will come off mounted the bushings of the top articulations of the shackle.
4 | At the front part of the springs , remove the nuts (14) from inside the side rails and the bolts (13) from the outside (both have flanges) and lift off the brackets (12) from the side rails (2) | Take care with the harnesses and with the inside cables stretched along the inside of the side rails.
5 | Remove from the brackets (10) the springs cylindrical stops. Remove the flange bolts and nuts (11) lift off the brackets (10) from the side rails (2)
| Install | ||
Rear axle spring brackets and limiting stops
6 | Assemble the new springs limiting stops on the brackets (10). Next assemble the brackets on the side rails (2) and fasten them the flange bolts and nuts (11)
7 | Assemble the new elastic bushings on the front and rear adapters (eyelets) of the springs. Assemble the elastic bushings in the adapters of the new rear brackets (1) for the top articulation of the shackles | Observe the correct position of the bushings in the articulations of the springs and shackles.
8 | Assemble on the side rails (2) the new rear brackets (1), place the bolts (3) and the nuts (4) and tighten them lightly | The bracket bolts also attach the cross members to the chassis. Tighten the nuts in a gradual and crosswise pattern to avoid tension points on the side rails.
| |||
9 | Assemble the brackets on the side rails (12) and fasten them the flange bolts (13) and flange nuts (14) | Tighten also the bolts in a gradual and crosswise pattern.
| |||
10 | Assemble the rear springs and place the flange bolts and nuts on the front articulations | At the rear of the springs assemble the shackles (15) with the threaded flange on the inside plates
| Remove | ||
Brackets of the rear stabilizer | We consider that the vehicle is in the favorable position after satisfying the items 1 to 10 according: Information on important preliminary measures.
1 | With the lateral rods (9) of the rear stabilizer loose at the top part, remove the flange nuts (8) and the bolts (7) that fasten the brackets (6) on the side rails (2) and remove them | Together with the brackets will come off mounted the bushings of the top articulations of the stabilizers lateral rods.
