Remove engine with front axle carrier

Hook engine with transmission up to suitable lifting equipment and lift until the engine mounts are relieved of load

 Chains vertical (see figure).

Remove collar bolts (1) and (2)

Unscrew ground strap (12) from engine support (14)

Press left front axle shaft (6) out of transmission (15) using a suitable screwdriver

 Installation: Install new circlip (18).

Remove bolts (3) and remove intermediate bearing (4) of right front axle shaft (5) from engine (16)

 Installation: Replace self-locking bolts (3). Retap thread in crankcase.



Press right front axle shaft (5) out of transmission (15) using a suitable screwdriver

Lift engine (16) with transmission (15) out of front axle carrier (17)

 Guide the left front axle shaft (6) and right front axle shaft (5) carefully out of the transmission (15).
 Installation: Insert the left front axle shaft (6) and right front axle shaft (5) carefully into the splines in the transmission.

The left front axle shaft (6) must be felt to engage.

Remove bolts (10) and remove bracket (9) for catalytic converter

 Only engine 166.

Remove bolts (13) and remove engine support (14)

 Only if replacing the transmission.

Remove bolts (11) and remove starter (M1)

Remove bolts (7) and disconnect transmission (15) from engine (16) at flange

 Transmission to engine

 Installation: Check seating of fitted sleeves (8) in crankcase.

Fitted sleeves must be installed in the crankcase

(2 ea.).

Inspect transmission oil level

 Correct oil level: Bottom edge of filler opening.

 Installation: Coat screw plugs for oil filler and drain holes with sealant.

Program control unit for bleeding, AKS setting and engagement point determination of clutch actuation

 Only vehicles with automatic clutch (code GS5).

Stored faults possibly caused by previous simulation or by cables disconnected in the process of installation or testing must be processed and erased in the DTC memories once all work is completed. See: 
