3 | Remove engine intake air duct (1) | Seal opening on turbocharger (14) using a suitable rag (22). | |
4 | Unscrew bolt (9) on oil feed line (12) bracket | | |
5 | Unclip bracket (6) of electrical wiring harness | ||
6 | Unplug connector (3) | ||
7 | Unclip retaining clip (4) | ||
8 | Unscrew bolts (8) and put bracket (16) aside | ||
9 | Remove plug (5) at coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) | ||
10 | Loosen hose clamps of coolant hoses (7, 10, 19, 20, 21) and detach coolant hoses (7, 10, 19, 20, 21) | Collect escaping coolant in a suitable container. | |
11 | Unscrew banjo bolt (13) of oil feed line (12) at cylinder head | Installation: Replace sealing rings of banjo bolt (13). | |

12 | Unscrew torx bolt (15) at oil feed line (12) bracket at turbocharger (14) | | |
13 | Unscrew bolts (11) at coolant thermostat housing (17) and bring coolant thermostat housing (17) out of engine compartment | The oil feed line (12) must not be bent while removing the coolant thermostat housing (17) as this can lead to visible damage to the oil feed line (12). | |

14.1 | Unscrew bolts (23) and detach fitting (18) of coolant thermostat housing (17) | When replacing the coolant thermostat housing (17). | |

15.1 | Take out coolant thermostat (24) from coolant thermostat housing (17) | When replacing the coolant thermostat housing (17). | |
Installation: Replace gasket (25) of coolant thermostat (24). The bore (arrow) must point vertically upward during installation. | |||
16.1 | Unscrew coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) | When replacing the coolant thermostat housing (17). | |
Installation: Coat coolant temperature sensor (B11/4) with sealant. | |||

19 | Check coolant level, top up if necessary | ||
| Engine cooling system - check fluid level, adjust to correct level. Inspect anticorrosion/antifreeze protection, adjust to correct concentration | ||
20 | Read fault memory, erase if necessary | ||
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory | ||
