Risk of personal damages, when carrying out jobs with the engine heated-up and running. | Be sure the gearbox is in neutral. Utilize appropriate clothes and pay attention to engine parts heated-up and moving. | |
1 | Turn-off the master switch, or disconnect the battery negative lead. | Remove cable bolt on the side rail, avoiding disconnection at the poles. | |
2 | Tilting the engine hood. | On vehicles with chassis: 386.0; 386.3; 388.0. | |
3 | Open the engine rear cover. | On vehicles (buses): 664.0; 664.1; 664.2 | |
4 | Remove the filler plug (12). | Fill the filter with the specific oil. | |

5 | Remove the plug (4). | Catch the oil in a container and eliminate it ecologically. | |

6 | Unscrew the bolt (1) and remove the filter housing (5). | | |
7 | Remove the filtering element (8) from the housing (5). | At assembly, change the filtering element (8) and be sure the spring (7) is fitting perfectly in the filtering element (8). | |
8 | Remove the sealing ring (6) from the housing (5). | At assembly replace the sealing ring (5). | |
9 | Install in reverse order. | ||
10 | Crank the engine, through the starter, until reestablishing the oil pressure in the lubrication circuit. | Do not crank the engine continuously for more than 10 seconds; should the oil pressure not be reestablished within this time interval, wait 30 seconds to let the starter cool off. Next, repeat the operation. |
