Install the engine turning/locking device

Remove injection pipe (6)

 Close the holes in the nozzle holder combination and in the MR/PLD unit pump (1).

Clean the motor in the area of the MR/PLD unit pump (1)

Remove the fastening strap for the engine wiring harness on the engine block

 Only if the MR/PLD unit pump (1) is removed from cylinder 1 or 2.

Remove the electrical harness from the motor (7) on the MR/PLD unit pump (1)

 Loosen the screws and separate both fixing clips.

Mark the MR/PLD unit pump (1) in correspondence with the relevant cylinder

 Only if several or all MR/PLD unit pumps (1) are removed.

Loosen the Torx screws (5)

 For safety, the screws (5) should only be unscrewed about 4 to 5 mm. The MR/PLD unit pump (1) is under spring tension.

 Install : Install the MR/PLD unit pump (1) with the screws (5) by screwing them slowly and alternately into the engine block.

Mount the impact puller (8) on the MR/PLD unit pump (1)

Pull the MR/PLD unit pump (1) out to the screw heads with the impact puller (8)

 Rotate the crankshaft with the turning device until the pump shoulder on the camshaft push the MR/PLD unit pump (1) out of the engine block. If the MR /PLD unit pump (1) is attached, it must not be forced out by the solenoid valve or the housing flange.

 Installation: Install: Carefully press the unit/PLD pump (1) inwards using your hands, pushing against the spring pressure and continuing until the gap is about 4 mm. If the unit pump shoulder on the camshaft is faced up, making it impossible to press the MR /PLD unit pump (1) sufficiently inward, continue to rotate the motor approximately 1/2 turn using the rotating / locking device.

Remove screws (5) and pull the MR/PLD unit pump (1) out

 Install : Carefully remove paint and paint residues from the sealing surface of the MR /PLD unit pump (1) and the engine block. Apply a thin layer of engine oil to the unit pump body and to the housing hole in the engine block.

 Do not tilt the MR /PLD unit pump (1) when inserting it into the engine block. The supply line in the MR /PLD unit pump (1) acts as a guide. Before pressing on the MR /PLD unit pump (1), make sure that the fuel supply line and the overflow hole are positioned one above the other.

Check the MR /PLD unit pump (1)

 Inspect the roller on the roller tappet_: If there are only minimal streaks and scratches, the MR/PLD unit pump (1) can continue to be used. If there are streaks, deep scratches and grinding marks, the MR /PLD unit pump (1) must be replaced. The body of the unit pump cannot be disassembled.

Replace the O-Rings in the injection unit and lightly apply grease to heat-resistant bearings

 Only when reinstalling injection units which have already been serviced.

 Lightly grease the injection unit and engine block hole with heat resistant grease for bearings.

Install in reverse order

 When installing new MR /PLD unit pumps (1), note the bar code (arrow) of the MR /PLD unit pump (1) to the respective cylinder.

Configure the barcode (arrow) of the MR /PLD unit pump (1) with STAR DIAGNOSIS in the 'MR' menu
