Removing

Remove cylinder head covers with ignition coils

Set crankshaft to a 40° crank angle after ignition TDC of
cylinder 1 and check engine timing

 The engine must not be turned back; otherwise the timing chain can get jammed.

Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until scribe mark 40° on pulley / vibration damper corresponds with scribe mark on the timing case. Grooves on the camshafts must be pointing toward the inner V.

Remove chain tensioner (2)

Remove camshaft Hall sensor (B6/1)

Detach camshaft sprocket, take off

 Tie camshaft sprocket and timing chain together with cable tie (5).

 Open-end wrench

Take off camshaft bearing bridge (4)

 Observe slackening diagram!

Remove camshaft



Install

Insert camshaft

 Pay attention to camshaft marking when installing camshaft.



Camshaft code number and assignment

 Oil the bearing surfaces!
Pay attention to correct position of cap on front end of camshaft.

Install camshaft bearing bridge (4).

 Observe tightening procedure.
