Remove camshafts

Remove roller-type cam follower (1) with valve clearance compensation element (2)

 If removing more than one valve clearance compensation elements, ensure that cam followers and valve clearance compensation elements not being replaced are reinstalled at their previous location. Mark cam follower for the corresponding valve clearance compensation element if necessary.

 Installation: Oil cam follower and valve clearance compensation element.

Detach clamp (3) by hand and remove valve clearance compensation element (2) from roller-type cam follower (1)



Checking

Check valve clearance compensation element (2) for proper operation, replace if required

 Press valve clearance compensation element together by hand only; do not use steel tools as these can damage the surface of the compensation element.

 The compensating element should be pressed together very slowly with the normal force of the hand. Do not apply strong pressure.

 If a number of valve clearance compensation elements are defective: 

Check oil pressure

Install in the reverse order

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
