Open left rear maintenance flap

Disconnect ground cable from battery

Open engine compartment flap at rear

 Danger!

Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant.

Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Detach coolant hose (5) from coolant inlet connection (2)

 Slacken clamp (4).

Unbolt coolant inlet connection (2)

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces and replace gasket (3).



Unscrew end cover (8)

 Installation: Oil contact surface on crankshaft with engine oil. Fit end cover at crankcase over the dowel pins (10).



Remove gasket (9)

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces and install new gasket. If both ends of gaskets project (arrow), these must be cut off exactly after fitting on end cover (8).

Inspect race for wear and traces of surface wear caused by the radial shaft seal (6)

 If no race is fitted on crankshaft or if race is damaged, replace race:


Remove/install race on the crankshaft

Use drift to remove radial shaft seal (6) from end cover (8)

 Installation: Install new radial shaft seal dry in the cover.

Place end cover down on a flat surface and install radial shaft seal with drift flush with the base in the end cover.


