| Remove/install | ||
Danger! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.
| Notes on self-locking nuts and bolts | ||
1 | Secure vehicle on the lifting platform | Position arms of lifting platform such that fender liners (15) in front fenders can be removed.
2 | Remove air filter housing
3 | Detach air scoop (2) from air duct
4 | Turn steering gear to center position
5 | Fix steering wheel in position using the retainer. | The steering wheel must not be turned when the steering coupling is detached, otherwise the clock spring contact will be destroyed.
| |||
6 | Remove the bolt (4) from the steering coupling (3) and separate the steering coupling (3) | Disconnect if steering coupling (3) is not corroded.
| |||
Grease | |||
Just disconnect a corroded steering coupling (3) for left-hand drive vehicles up to chassis end number 160000 (with model 169) or chassis end number 008500 (with model 245).

8 | Unclip the wiring harness (5) at the clip (7) and cut off the retaining clip (6) using side cutting pliers. | If the retaining clip (6) is not removed properly, the cover of the torque sensor board may be damaged. This can lead to ingress of moisture that can cause the steering to break down.
9 | Unclip the wiring harness (8) at the clip (9)
10 | Unscrew bolt (10), unhinge the bracket (11) for the purge vacuum line and the fuel line at the firewall
