Danger! | Risk of accident due to automatic start-up with the engine running. Risk of injuries due to trapping or burning when intervening during engine start or while it is in motion. | Protect the vehicle against a possible automatic start-up. Wear tight and closed working clothes. Do not touch heated or moving parts.
Danger! | Risk of personal and material damages when tilting and returning the vehicle cab. | Make sure that the area of cab return and tilting is free of people and objects. Tilt the cab until safety rod locks it in final position. Return the cab to its correct lockout in work position.
1 | Tilt the cab. | ||
2 | Make a preliminary assessment of the engine compression (electronically) through the equipment Star Diagnosis. | Identify two cylinders; the one with the best and the one with the worst result. According to the following steps, check the effective compression of the two identified cylinders and evaluate their actual conditions.
3 | Start the engine at working temperature. | Coolant temperature approximately 80oC.
4 | Remove the cylinder head cover coverage.
5 | Disconnect the connectors (6) from all nozzles. | This operation aims to prevent the engine from running during compression measurement.
6 | Remove the preheating plugs.
7 | Rotate the engine for about 5 seconds through the starter. | To expel any combustion residues from the cylinder.
| Check | ||
8 | Screw the adapter (2) with the hinged socket (3) into the preheating plug housing (arrow) of the cylinder to be checked. | At the front of the adapter (2) there is a check valve.
| |||
9 | Connect the compression meter (1) to the adapter (2). | Additionally use part (1.1). Be careful not to damage the injection piping (7).
| |||
| |||
| |||
10 | Rotate the engine by turning the ignition key. | Rotate the engine until the pressure indicated on the gauge does not increase. At least 8 engine revolutions.
11 | Check the compression of the other cylinder, following the previous steps. | Depressurize (bleed) the gauge before checking compression.
12 | Compare the values obtained with the specified values. | Compression pressure (new engine).
Minimum permissible compression pressure.
Maximum variation between cylinders of an engine.
If the compression pressure obtained is lower than the minimum permissible and the variation in pressure between the cylinders is greater than the maximum permissible .
Remove cylinder head and search for the cause.
13 | Mount in reverse order. |
