Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
1 | Adjust the temperature selector of vehicle heating to maximum heat output | Ensure that all the cooling system shutoff valves are open.
2 | Open engine compartment flap
3 | Inspect the condition of the cooling and heating system, and check for leaks
4 | Unscrew cap (1) from coolant expansion reservoir (3)
5 | Unscrew drain plugs (4, 5) and drain coolant | Collect escaping coolant in a suitable container. Old coolant and corrosion residues must be completely flashed out. If the cooling system is very dirty, clean it against a separate repair order.
| Notes on coolant | All engines | |
6 | Screw in drain plugs (4, 5) | Install new sealing rings.
7 | Pour in coolant up to the upper mark on the coolant level indicator (2) | Only use coolant in the specified composition in order to prevent damage to the engine and cooling system.
| Notes on coolant | All engines | |

Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
8 | Start engine and run at alternating speeds for about 1 minute
9 | Switch off engine and top up coolant
| Notes on coolant | All engines | |
10 | Open the cap (1) of the coolant expansion reservoir (3)
11 | Close engine compartment flap
12 | Start the engine and drive until the coolant has reached operating temperature
13 | Switch off engine and allow to cool down
| Checking | ||
14 | Check coolant level, adjust to correct level if necessary. | At a coolant temperature of about
| Notes on coolant | All engines | |
15 | Inspect the condition of the cooling and heating system, and check for leaks |
