Remove viscous fan clutch

Position piston of cylinder 1 to ignition TDC

 Do not reverse rotate the engine otherwise the timing chain could become jammed.

 Do not crank engine at the bolt of the camshaft sprocket.

Remove chain tensioner (9)

 Installation: Replace sealing ring on chain tensioner (10).

Engine 611.960/961, engine 611.962 except in model 203.204, 612.961/962/963/967/990, engine 613.960 except in model 220.126, engine 613.961

Remove front cover at cylinder head (5)

 Removal: Carefully raise lock pawl (7) of top slide rail (8).

Lock inlet camshaft

 Insert retaining pin through 1st. camshaft bearing cap into hole of intake camshaft gear.



Remove driver (11) for inlet camshaft

 To do this counterhold camshaft with open end wrench.



17 mm hexagon socket 3/8 inch square

Remove top guide rail (8)

Install in the reverse order

Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check for oil leaks with engine running
