Steering gear Type ZF 8090, 8095, 8097, 8098
1 Fluid level dipstick
2 Reservoir cap
3 Fluid level (level checking with hot fluid)
4 Fluid level (level checking with cold fluid)
Bleeding | |||
1 | Suspend the vehicle by the front axle and immobilize it or place it on turning plates
2 | With the fluid dipstick (1) check the hydraulic fluid level and, if required, top the reservoir with recommended hydraulic fluid | During the bleeding process, the hydraulic fluid level must not be under the minimum level mark. Otherwise, air is drawn again to the steering system.
Danger! | Risk of accidents by vehicle motion when the engine is started. Risk of injuries by pinching or burning when starting the engine or when the vehicle is moving | Prevent the vehicle from accidental movement. Wear working clothes that suit properly and that are not loose. Do not touch hot or moving parts.
3 | Start the engine | ||
4 | Check the hydraulic fluid level (3,4) in the reservoir, and if necessary replenish it | Work with the engine at the lowest rotation possible to prevent air bubbles from being drawn by the steering pump.
5 | Turn the steering wheel several times from stop to stop, while observing the hydraulic fluid level | If during the process the hydraulic fluid level get lower, the reservoir must be immediately topped . Continue the process until the fluid dipstick remains stable at the fluid dipstick upper mark (1) and there are no air bubbles in the reservoir.
Steering gear assembly models featuring automatic bleeding have no bleeding screws. These steering assemblies automatically discharge the remaining air in the steering gear, according to the bleeding process above.
6 | Remove the steering gear bleeding screw protective cover, insert a transparent plastic hose over the screw and the other end of the hose in a container with hydraulic fluid | For steering gear with bleeding screw system, follow steps 6, 7 and 8.
7 | Loosen the bleeding screw ( a turn) and turn the steering wheel from stop to stop | Continue this process until there are no air bubbles coming from the bleeding screw.
8 | Tighten the bleeding screw and cover it with the protective cover
9 | Complete the hydraulic fluid in the reservoir and turn the steering wheel again, from stop to stop
10 | Shut down the engine | When shutting down the engine, the hydraulic fluid in the reservoir must not raise more than 1 to 2 cm, according to the size of the steering system.
11 | Remove the front shaft from the rotating bearing brackets |
