Vehicles inoperative for long period - important considerations
If the vehicle remains inoperative for a long period (without engine operation), disconnect the battery negative lead;
If the vehicle remains immobilized for more than 30 (thirty) days, it will be necessary to recharge the batteries according to the procedure indicated in SI54.10-B-0017A.
Should it be necessary to move the vehicle, provided the batteries are charged, connect the battery negative lead checking the terminal screw tightening torque which must be 12 Nm +/- 1 Nm;
For vehicles with Proconve P7 motorization (Euro 5) BlueTec 5, before disconnecting the battery ground cable it is necessary to wait 5 (five) minutes after engine shutdown to ensure that the cleaning process of the AdBlue line is carried out. This process is fundamental to avoid the crystallization of the urea contained in the AdBlue, thus avoiding damages in the exhaust gas aftertreatment system.
When running the vehicle engine, observe if the location is appropriate, i.e., that it has good ventilation.
Analysis of batteries and shipping of batteries under guarantee
Before filing a guarantee claim for batteries, a series of checks is necessary in order to detect eventual discrepancies in the power generating system (alternator), of actuation (starter motor) besides the general vehicle electric wiring system.
Check the procedures for assessing the batteries according to information below, SI54.10-B-0017A.
It is important that the Dealer checks the charge condition of the battery when receiving a new vehicle.
No guarantee claims will be accepted of battery failure caused by long storage periods of the chassis/vehicle at the Dealer, transporter or implementer/body builder.
