Drive authorization system stage 2 as of 12/94,as of 09/95
The infrared remote control module acts on the engine control module for realizing drive authorization stage 2. The system disables the engine control when the vehicle is locked with the infrared remote control. Although the starter still turns the engine cannot start.
The vehicle is equipped with a drive authorization system (RCL version) to match the engine control module. There are two versions. An RCL version with CAN bus connection and a version with PWM connection to the engine control module.
Engines with mechanical fuel injection are equipped with a drive authorization system shut-off valve (DSV) control module with integrated fuel shut-off valve for interrupting the fuel feed. This control module is also connected to the RCL control module via CAN bus.
The drive authorization system and the ATA can only be activated or deactivated with the RCL. Opening or closing the vehicle with the mechanical key does not influence the drive authorization system or the ATA (): all systems can still be actuated with the RCL and key).
The RCL control module and the engine control module are connected by the CAN bus and permanently associated with one another by an identification code. It is not possible to erase the identification. Using the RCL control module or engine control module from another vehicle for testing purposes is therefore not possible.

Replacing components of infrared remote control for central locking (vehicles with drive authorization system stage 2)
The infrared remote control module and the engine control module are permanently associated with one another by an identification code. For this reason it is necessary for the part of the lock with infrared lock number to remain in the vehicle over the entire vehicle lifetime; i.e. it is only permissible to replace the mechanical part of the lock number and the check number.

Lock number structure
This means when a remote control key or a mechanical key is lost:
RCL part of lock number is maintained invalidate lost key by desynchronizing control module or by revocably or irrevocably disabling the corresponding remote control key.
Change mechanical part of lock number install mechanical lock with new lock number. It is absolutely necessary to send a sticker with the 8-digit lock number to the Dept. VP/MAM2, Mercedes-Benz AG, D-70322 Stuttgart indicating the VIN.
This means when the RCL control module is defective:
RCL part of lock number is maintained install new control module with same lock number.
This means when the mechanical part of lock is defective:
Lock number is maintained replace lock part while maintaining lock number.
Disabling infrared remote control key revocably or irrevocably (vehicles with drive authorization stage 2)
With the use of the RCL control modules with part number 210 820 27 26 / 28 26 as of approx. 09/95 infrared remote control keys can be disabled revocably with the hand-held tester. Disabling of certain remote control keys is possible with the hand-held tester with menu guidance. Revocably disabling or enabling of certain remote control keys is possible with the hand-held tester module as of 06/95.
With the use of drive authorization system stage 2, infrared remote control keys can be disabled irrevocably with the hand-held tester. Disabling of certain remote control keys is possible with the hand-held tester with menu guidance.
Irrevocably disabling a certain remote control key when a remote control key is lost, should only be performed expressly on customer request.
It is not possible to reenable remote control keys once they have been disabled irrevocably.
P80.30-0249-01
All vehicles are delivered with remote control keys "1" and "2" from the factory. The infrared substitute key delivered as of approx. 05/95 has the number "3". Moreover, all remote control keys with continuous numbering bought later are to be considered. The remote control keys still present can be recognized from the number embossed in the remote control key housing. Remove battery compartment cover from remote control keys and read off marking numbers.
This makes it possible to determine the number of the lost key to be disabled.
