No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

1

Switch off ignition.

Open and close fuel filler cap.

 in order to relieve pressure in the fuel tank.

Remove right underfloor paneling.

If installed.

Remove drain pipe (1) from screw (4).

 To do so, remove clamp (2) and pull drain pipe (1) off downward.

 Observe installation position of clamp (2).

Unscrew screw (4).


Catch fuel running out with suitable vessel.
Damage will otherwise occur.

 Fuel escapes after the screw (4) has been removed. Dispose of screw (4).



Install

Screw in new screw (4).

 Screw, water outlet to fuel filter housing cap

Remove

Unscrew cap (5).


Catch fuel running out with suitable vessel.
Damage will otherwise occur.

 Fuel escapes after the cap has been loosened (5).

 Socket wrench bit

Attach puller (6) to fuel filter (7).

 The puller (6) is included in the scope of supply of the new fuel filter (7).

Release fuel filter (7) from fuel filter housing (11).

 To do so, twist fuel filter (7) clockwise until marking (8) is aligned with marking (10) of the fuel filter housing (11).

Remove fuel filter (7).


Catch fuel running out with suitable vessel.
Damage will otherwise occur.

 Fuel escapes while the fuel filter (7) is being removed.

 Use puller (6) to pull released fuel filter (7) out of fuel filter housing (11).

 Dispose of the puller used (6) and the old fuel filter (7).



Install

Replace sealing ring (12).

 Lubricate sealing ring (12) with diesel fuel.

Replace the sealing ring (13).

 Lubricate sealing ring (13) with diesel fuel.

Insert new fuel filter (7) in fuel filter housing (11).

 Lubricate sealing rings (14, 15) with diesel fuel.

 To do this, marking (8) must be aligned with marking (10) of the fuel filter housing (11).

Lock fuel filter (7) onto fuel filter housing (11).

 To do so, twist fuel filter (7) counterclockwise until marking (9) is aligned with marking (10) of the fuel filter housing (11).

Screw in the cap (5).

Install drain pipe (1) on screw (4).

 Lubricate sealing ring (3) with diesel fuel.

 To do so, insert drain pipe (1) into screw (4) and lock it with the clamp (2).

 Observe installation position of clamp (2).
Check clamp (2) and sealing ring (3).

If the clamp (2) or sealing ring (3) is damaged,



Replace clamp (2) or sealing ring (3).

Lower vehicle with vehicle lift.

Switch on ignition before engine start.


Leave the ignition switched on until the end of delivery from the fuel pump is reached to ensure that fuel is present at the fuel high-pressure pump when the engine is started.
This helps to prevent damage to the fuel system.

 This is how the fuel filter housing (11) is filled with fuel.



Check

 Warning

Risk of burn injuries, suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust.

Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area.

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Check fuel system for leaks in area of fuel filter housing (11) while the engine is running.
