1 | Position steering wheel in straight-ahead position | ||
2 | Position steering column to lowest position | ||
3 | Remove cover (1) | The cover (1) is clipped into the instrument panel at seven points. Observe removal direction (A). | |
4 | Remove bolts (2) | ||
5 | Remove cover (3) | The panel (3) is clipped into the lower section of the instrument panel at two points. Therefore, to remove cover (3) unclip it in removal direction (B). | |
6 | Remove ignition key | ||
7 | Remove top cover (4) and lower cover (5) | ||
8 | Remove outer footwell cover (8) and inner footwell cover (9) on the driver side | ||
9 | Remove lower trim of the instrument panel (10) on the driver side | ||
10 | Remove left multifunction lever (S20) | ||
11 | Disconnect readout electronics of the immobilizer (11) from the steering lock (12) | ||
12 | Detach electrical connector for mechanical ignition lock (S1a.X1.6) and expose electrical line as far as the steering lock (12) | ||
13 | Drill out thread stumps of shear-off screws (13) on steering lock (12) | Pre-drill with a Ø 3 mm drill bit first, then drill out with a Ø 8 mm drill bit. | |
Installation: Tighten new shear-off screws (14) evenly until the screw heads shear off. | |||
14 | Remove steering lock (12) from steering column | ||
15 | Remove lock cylinder | Only if the steering lock (12) or the lock cylinder is being replaced. | |
16 | Install in the reverse order |
