Remove/install

 Warning

Risk of injury caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Remove countersunk bolt (32c), counterhold steering wheel (32) while doing so

 Installation: Replace countersunk bolt (32c).

Detach steering wheel (32), while doing so route electric lines to airbag unit through opening in steering wheel (32)

 Installation: Align recesses of splines (arrow) on steering wheel (32) with markings on the steering shaft.



Conduct a road test

 If the steering wheel (32) is at a slant, adjust it by max. one tooth. If the steering wheel (32) is offset by more than one tooth, perfect turn signal cancellation is no longer guaranteed.

 The airbag indicator and warning lamp (A1e15) may not come on when the wheels are fully turned in either direction.
