Remove

Remove propeller shaft from front axle differential (1).

Remove drain screw and drain hypoid gear oil from front axle differential (1) and collect with a suitable container.

Remove rack-and-pinion steering.

Remove right front axle shaft.

Remove intermediate shaft.

Remove screws (2, 3a, 3b, 3c) and place front axle differential (1) onto front axle.

Remove support (4).

Remove front axle differential (1) downwards.

Check that pilot bushing in oil pan is correctly seated.

If there is a problem,



replace pilot bushing.

 Remove radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r).


Do not damage seat of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r).
Otherwise, the front axle differential (1) will be leaky.

  Connect the internal extractor and  impact extractor to the threaded rod of the  extraction tool.

Check seat of radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) for damage and galling.

If there is a problem,



replace front axle differential (1).



Install

Coat sealing lips of new radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) with transmission oil.



Install new radial shaft sealing rings (5l, 5r) with drift.

Install support (4).

 Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test.

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run while checking front axle differential (1) for leak tightness and proper operation.

Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining.
