Remove the brake drum

Remove the steering bar and tie rods

Remove upper and lower lock-rings (2)

Remove covers (3) and upper and lower seal rings (4)

 Replace the seal rings (4).

Remove the king pin (6)

 The master pin can only be removed moving it upwards. Use a press.

Remove the axle sleeve (6), the thrust bearing (9) and the compensating washers (8)

Check

Check the axle sleeve (6)

 Be careful when checking the steering knuckle regarding damages, cracks, and wear. Check the peculiarity of the bearings seats.

 You must not straighten or align the steering knuckle. When required, replace it.

Disassemble the axle sleeve (6)

Install

Install, on the beam handle (7), the axle sleeve (6) and adjust the axial clearance through compensating washers (8)

Center the steering knuckle (6) with the thrust bearing (9) and compensating washer (8) pre-selected, on the beam handle (7), using the corresponding drift pin

Cool the king pin (5) with liquid nitrogen

 There should be no manual contact with liquid nitrogen or the king pin.

Remove the king pin (5) of the cooling box with the aid of a support and introduce it in the axle sleeve (6)

 Before assembly, observe that the king pin and its housing in the beam handle are perfectly clean and free of greasy substances.

 If it is impossible to cool the king pin in liquid nitrogen, one should heat the beam handle with a heating blower.

 The temperature should not be higher than the one recommended not to damage the seal in the steering knuckle.

Install the seal rings (4) and covers (3) on the top and bottom

Install the upper and lower lock-rings (2) noting that they fit perfectly in the groove

 Immediately after the installation, lubricate the shaft end until grease comes out from the steering knuckle and the beam handle.

Install the connecting and steering arms
