Remove/install

1

Remove front wheel.

 Installation: Do not reattach front wheel until after the leak test.

Remove front fender liner.

 Installation: Do not reinstall fender liner until after the leak test.

Remove the transmission with torque converter.

Remove left air filter housing.

Remove exhaust gas recirculation line.

Unscrew bolts (2).

Unscrew nut (6).

Unscrew screw/bolts (4).

Swivel bracket (5) to the side and remove heat shield (7).

Unscrew nuts (8).

 Installation: Replace nuts (8).

 Nut, exhaust manifold to cylinder head

Remove bracket (9).

Unscrew nuts (10).

 Installation: Replace nuts (10).

 Nut, exhaust manifold to cylinder head

Remove exhaust manifold (1).

Remove seal between exhaust manifold (1) and cylinder head.

 Installation: Replace seal.

Remove seal (11).

 Installation: Replace seal (11).



Check

Check all stud bolts of the exhaust manifold (1) for damage.

If there is a problem,



Replace corresponding stud bolt.

Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head.

Clean sealing surfaces on exhaust manifold (1).

If the exhaust manifold (1) is not replaced.

Clean sealing surface on exhaust gas collector pipe (3).

Install in the reverse order.



Check

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform an engine test run and check the exhaust system for leaks in the repair area.
