Engine management control unit (MCM)

 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted

Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure it with the safety strut.

Remove

Connect diagnostic system, start XENTRY and perform quick test.

Only if the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) is replaced.

Select Control unit replacement and follow the instructions.

Only if the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) is replaced.

 Control unit replacement is completely menu-assisted under:
MCM - engine management (A4)  
Adaptation  
Initial startup 
Control unit replacement

Switch off ignition.

If engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) is not replaced.

Tilt cab.

Remove noise encapsulation.

Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Remove the screw (2) and disconnect the electrical connector (3) from the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Expose the electrical wiring harness (4) on the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Unclip the oil dipstick tube (5) from the bracket (6).

Unscrew screws (7).

Remove and take out the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) with the decoupling elements (8).

Remove the bracket (6) from the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Only if the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) is replaced.



Install

Install the bracket (6) on the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Only if a new engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) is installed.

Install the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) with the decoupling elements (8).

 Note the installation position of the decoupling elements (8).

Tighten the screws (7).

 Screw/bolt, engine management (MCM) control unit to fuel filter module

Clip the oil dipstick tube (5) onto bracket (6).

Fasten the electrical wiring harness (4) to the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Connect the electrical connection (3) to the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) and tighten the screw (2).

Connect the electrical connection (1) to the engine management (MCM) control unit (A4).

Install noise encapsulation.

Tilt back cab.

Follow instructions for "Control unit replacement".

Check

Perform engine test run.

Only if engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) was replaced.

Check the engine management for proper operation.

Only if engine management (MCM) control unit (A4) was replaced.
