Remove

Remove the right and/or left camshaft sprocket with attached timing chain from the camshaft to be removed (4).

Remove the camshaft bracket (6).

Remove the hold-down tool (5).

Remove the camshaft to be removed (4) from the cylinder head.



Check

Press down the hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements one after the other with a suitable tool by hand and evaluate their condition.


Only push the hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements together by hand and do not use a steel tool.
The surface of the hydraulic valve clearance compensating element can get damaged otherwise.

 It must not be possible to press the hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements together with normal force of the hand and it should be possible to move them together only very slowly when strong pressure is applied. If several hydraulic valve play compensation elements drop, check oil duct and oil feed bores of the hydraulic valve clearance compensating elements for impurities.

If one hydraulic valve play compensation element lowers more than the others,



replace that hydraulic valve clearance compensating element.

Check all adjacent components of the camshaft (4) for damage and wear.

If there is a problem,



Replace affected component.



Install

Lubricate hydraulic valve clearance compensation elements, the roller cam followers and camshaft bearing points with engine oil.



Install camshafts (4).

 Do not swap the camshafts (4).

 The markings (2) on the camshafts (4) must be aligned with each other and the markings (3) must, seen in the direction of travel, be aligned on the left side to the cylinder head upper edge.

Install hold-down tool (5).

Install the camshaft bracket (6).

Attach right and/or left camshaft sprocket to the camshaft (4).
