Remove

Remove cylinder head cover

Position piston of cylinder 1 to ignition TDC

Rotate engine on crankshaft. � The TDC marking on the belt pulley (10) must align with the positioning edge on the timing case cover (arrow). The cams on the cylinder 1 point upwards in an oblique position.

Remove the plastic shield above the camshaft sprocket on the exhaust side

Remove front cover on cylinder head

Remove rear cover on cylinder head

Insert retaining lock (10) for crankshaft/starter ring gear

 Through the hole for the crankshaft position sensor.

Mark the camshaft sprocket (4) for the timing chain (5) and tie it with cable tie

Remove chain tensioner (9)

Remove camshaft sprocket (4) from the camshaft (2) on the intake side

 Note the dowel pin (3), remove the camshaft sprocket (4) with the timing chain (5) placed on it

Remove camshaft bearing cap (8)

Loosen camshaft bearing cap (8) evenly in steps of a revolution until the back pressure has been released.
The camshafts must not be tilted when slackening the camshaft bearing caps (8).

Remove the camshaft on the intake side (2) and exhaust side (1)



Install

Insert the camshaft on the intake side (2) and exhaust side (1)


The camshafts are very fragile. Ensure they are installed free of tension.
Ensure that the drag lever is seated correctly.

 Insert the camshafts in such a way that the cylinder pins Ø 6 mm (11) can be inserted through the hole in the gearwheel of the camshaft on the intake side (2) and the camshaft on the exhaust side (1).
The cylinder pins (11) must rest on the cylinder head.

 Note the camshaft code numbers.

Lubricate the drag lever and camshaft bearing points,



Align the camshaft on the intake side (2) and the camshaft on the exhaust side (1) with the axial bearing.

Install the camshaft bearing cap (8)

Install the camshaft bearing caps (8) in the same place



and tighten them evenly in steps of 1 revolution each.

Install the camshaft sprocket (4) with the timing chain (5) placed on it on the camshaft on the intake side (2)

 Screw/bolt, camshaft sprocket to camshaft

Replace the internal Torx bolts (6). Note the dowel pin (3).



After installing the camshaft sprocket, remove the cable tie

Install chain tensioner (9)
