 Caution

Remove

Check basic position of camshafts

Remove cylinder head cover

AR01.20-S-5014PB

Remove timing case cover

AR01.40-S-8000PB



Check

Check position of gearwheel (4)

 Marking (C) must match with marking (D).

If marking (C) does not match with marking (D).



Install belt pulley of crankshaft and screw on.

Turn crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until marking (C) matches with marking (D).

Remove belt pulley of the crankshaft.

Remove chain tensioner (8)

 Do not attach cable tie.

 Camshaft positioners (1, 2) may turn.

Remove spacer sleeve (7)

Remove timing chain (3)



Check

Check timing chain (3), camshaft positioners (1, 2), gearwheel (4), slide rail (5) and tensioning rail (6) for wear

Depending on findings



Replace worn parts.



Install

Place timing chain (3) around gearwheel (4)

 For this purpose, align marking (E) with marking (F).

Guide timing chain (3) over slide rail (5) and tensioning rail (6) and position in front of toothing of camshaft positioners (1, 2)


Keep timing chain (3) under tension.
Timing chain (3) can otherwise skip.

Mount timing chain (3) on camshaft positioner (2)


Keep timing chain (3) under tension.
Timing chain (3) can otherwise skip.

 For this purpose, turn camshaft at hexagon using open-end wrench until marking (A2) matches marking (B2). A helper is required.

Mount timing chain (3) on camshaft positioner (1)


Keep timing chain (3) under tension.
Timing chain (3) can otherwise skip.

 For this purpose, turn camshaft at hexagon using open-end wrench until marking (A1) matches with marking (B1). A helper is required.

Manually press tensioning rail (6) and slide rail (5) together and hold

 This prevents timing chain (3) from skipping.

Install chain tensioner (8) and release tension

Tensioning rail (6) and slide rail (5) must in this connection remain pressed together.
Timing chain (3) can otherwise skip.



Check

Install belt pulley of crankshaft

AR03.30-S-1700PB

 Do not tighten screw.

Fully rotate crankshaft in direction of engine rotation x 2

Check basic position of camshafts
