Secure vehicle on vehicle lift

Remove timing case cover

Remove oil pan

Adjust

Set piston of cylinder 1 to top dead center (ignition TDC) with counterholder

 Rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the 00 marking on the belt pulley/vibration damper coincides with the marking on the major assembly carrier.

Loosen screw/bolts (1) for the drive wheels (2)

Turn balance shafts, and position assembly tools (4 and 5)


The shaft offset (3) must point in the direction of the cylinder head.
Engine damage can occur otherwise.

Turn back balance shafts and fix in place with an assembly tool (6)

Tighten down screw/bolts (1) for the drive wheels (2)

Set crankshaft to 30° after ignition TDC of cylinder 1 with counterholder, and remove assembly tools (4 and 5)

 Warning

Risk of burn injuries, suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust.

Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the hazard area.
