Attach engine to assembly stand.



Remove flywheel/drive plate.

Remove cylinder head cover.

Unscrew screw/bolts (5) and lay fuel lines down to side

Remove screw/bolts (1, 2).

 Bolt, timing case cover to crankcase/cylinder head/oil pan top section

Unclip vacuum hose (3).

Remove electrical wiring harnesses (11) from the brackets (10) and place to one side.

Remove rear radial shaft sealing ring from the timing case cover (12).

 Installation: Replace rear radial shaft sealing ring.

Remove starter from the timing case cover (12) and place to one side with connected electrical lines.

Remove screws (6, 7, 8, 9) of the timing case cover (12).

 Installation: Follow the bolt plan.

 Bolt, timing case cover to crankcase/cylinder head/oil pan top section

Pry off timing case cover (12).


Carefully pry off timing case cover (12) using a suitable tool.
Otherwise, the cylinder head gasket will be damaged.

 Installation: The pilot bushings must engage in the cutouts in the timing case cover (12).

Clean sealing surfaces of the crankcase, oil pan, and timing case cover (12).

Do not clean sealing surfaces with sharp-edged or tipped objects.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.

Apply sealant to the sealing surfaces of the timing case cover (12) with a squeeze gun.

Install in the reverse order.

Check

Check engine oil level.



Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run. While doing so, check engine for proper operation and leak tightness.
