Unscrew crankshaft bearing caps (2, 2a)

Interference fit of crankshaft bearing cap

Crankshaft bearing caps (2, 2a) are numbered consecutively, starting from the first crankshaft bearing cap at the front, take into account fit

Check crankshaft bearing cap bolts

Installation: Oil bolts of crankshaft bearing caps at thread and bolt head contact surface, tighten from the inside to the outside starting at thrust bearing.
Turn crankshaft, check for ease of movement.

Remove crankshaft (20) from cylinder crankcase

Measure crankshaft and remount in bearings

Installation: Oil bearing shells before insertion of crankshaft. Install bearing shells at same location, where applicable

Oil grooves in thrust plates (22) and (23) must point towards thrust collars of crankshaft. Thrust plates (22) in bearing cap have, in each case, two retaining lugs as an anti-twist lock, see
