Remove

1

Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)

Remove upper left engine air intake duct

Remove lower left engine air intake duct

Remove oil filter housing (4)

Detach ABC hydraulic line (2) at cylinder head cover and fasten to one side with cable tie

Fix coolant line (3) with cable tie to one side

Release and disconnect electrical connections at camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6)

Unclip electrical line (5) on front cover (1l)

Detach camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6) from front cover (1l)

When replacing the front cover (1).

Remove screw/bolts (1s) on front cover (1)

Notes on threaded connections with aluminum screws/bolts

 Replace screw/bolts (1s) with new ones.

 Bolt, front cover to cylinder head/cylinder head cover

Carefully loosen front cover (1l) at prying lugs and detach to the front

Clean sealing surfaces on cylinder head, on cylinder head cover and on front cover (1l)

Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surface will be damaged otherwise.

Install

Modify camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6) from front cover (1l)

When replacing the front cover (1).

Apply sealant to front cover (1l)

Carefully place front cover (1) on cylinder head

Screw screw/bolts (1s) onto front cover (1)

Clip electrical line (5) onto front cover (1l)

Connect electrical connections of camshaft solenoids (Y49/4, Y49/6)

Unfasten cable tie and bring coolant line (3) in the position

Loosen cable tie, fasten ABC hydraulic line (2) to cylinder head cover
