Remove/install

Remove upper engine cover

 Installation: Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.

Remove engine air intake duct upstream of air filter

Unscrew cap from expansion reservoir and relieve pressure in the low-temperature circuit

Remove charge air pipe (2)

 Installation: Check seal for damage and replace if necessary.

Remove line (4) from front cover (1)

Remove charge air cooler (5) and place to one side with connected coolant lines

Release and disconnect electrical connections of the inlet­ and exhaust camshaft (Y49/1, Y49/2) solenoids

Remove oil filter element (3)



Unscrew screw/bolts (9)

 Bolt, front cover to cylinder head/cylinder head cover

Remove front cover (1) and take out

Notes on sealant path for front cover to cylinder head xxx

Do not hammer in a tool to pry off between cylinder head cover and front cover(1).
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.

 Installation: Apply sealant to front cover (1). Observe notes on sealant path for front cover (1).

Remove solenoids on inlet and exhaust camshaft (Y49/1, Y49/2)

Only when replacing front cover (1).

Clean

Clean sealing surfaces on front cover (1), cylinder head and cylinder head cover

Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.

Check and correct oil level



Perform an engine test run and check engine for proper operation and leak tightness

 Metric screws/bolts and nuts as per MBN 10 105, 10 143
