Remove/install

Remove upper engine cover.

 Installation: Only install upper engine cover after the leak test.

Remove charge air pipe upstream of the charge air cooler.

Release and disconnect electrical connector of the intake camshaft adjustment solenoid (Y49/1) or exhaust camshaft adjustment solenoid (Y49/2).

Remove screws (1) of the intake camshaft adjustment solenoid (Y49/1) or exhaust camshaft adjustment solenoid (Y49/2).

 Installation: Replace screw/bolts (1).

 Bolt, camshaft solenoid to timing case cover

Remove intake camshaft adjustment solenoid (Y49/1) and exhaust camshaft adjustment solenoid (Y49/2).

 Installation: Replace respective sealing ring.

Install in the reverse order.



Check

Connect diagnostic device, read out fault memory, and delete.



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Perform engine test run; in doing so, check the engine for proper operation and leak tightness.



Install upper engine cover.
