| Checking | ||
Status | |||
1 | Open engine compartment flap
2 | Check actuating cylinder for engine brake, linkages and throttle shaft for wear | Replace problem parts as a separate repair order.
3 | Check for firm seating of throttle lever (1) on the throttle shaft
Adjustment | |||
4.1 | Disconnect electrical connector on rpm switch (5) and bridge the contacts in chambers 1 and 4 (arrows) using a cable | Only for electronic engine control (EMR) and engines with constant throttle. The engine brake is only functional on a stationary engine or rotational speed below 900 rpm if the rpm switch (5) is bridged in the electrical compartment.
5 | Check position of throttle shaft in its neutral position and in operating position | In neutral position the notch (4) must be parallel, and in operating position perpendicular, to the flow direction of the exhaust gases.
6 | Switch on ignition | ||
7 | Actuate the engine brake for full-load position of the accelerator pedal | When the engine brake actuating cylinder disengages then the linear actuator working cylinder (3) on the injection pump rod or the electronic engine control (EMR) actuator motor should be actuated at the same time.
The injection pump lever must be in the closed throttle position.
8 | Check preload of the actuating cylinder for the engine brake in the engine brake park position | The preload is sufficient if the throttle lever (1) is touching the bracket (2) with the force of the return spring on the engine brake cylinder. In operating position the throttle lever (1) must again touch the bracket (2). |
