Leakage in steering | Interface leakage, component leakage | Interface leakage means that the leakage occurs between two components.
It is generally caused by damaged sealing rings or dirt, but can also be caused by damaged sealing surfaces; it is therefore necessary to check the sealing surfaces on the components when lines are replaced.
If the sealing surface is undamaged, the component should not be replaced; the sealing surfaces must be resealed instead.
Component leakage means that the component (e.g. power steering pump, steering gear) itself is leaky.
In this case, the component concerned must be replaced.
