Replace electronic ignition/starter switch (electronic ignition lock) [EZS]:
Change the EIS, personalize it using the workshop key, switch on the ignition using the vehicle key and only then activate the EIS using the HHT/Star Diagnosis. This is the only way that the new electronic ignition lock recognizes whether an ECU with FBS2-coding or FBS3 coding is installed in the vehicle. If the ignition is not switched on before "Activating", then the new EZS is automatically programmed to vehicle with FBS2 ECU variant. Consequently the electronic ignition lock can no longer be used if an engine control unit with FBS3 coding in installed in the vehicle
Programming a spare key:
Insert spare key in the electronic ignition lock. Red LED on key lights up. If the LED goes out, programming of the key in the electronic ignition lock is ended.
On vehicles with engine control units with FBS3 coding, this new key must now also be taught in.
To do this:
Switch on the ignition and wait 90 min. During this time, there is no visual indication on the key as to whether programming is still running or has finished.
The completed programming can only be checked by engine start. Programming continues after the ignition has been switched off but is aborted if the ignition is switched on again, and then starts again from the beginning if it was not yet finished.
If the engine is started before programming is completed, the engine runs for approx. 1.5 s and then stops running again. On models 215 and 220, programming of the engine control unit and electronic selector lever module is performed simultaneously.
1 | Insert spare key in the electronic ignition lock [EZS] | Red LED on key lights up.
2 | Remove spare key from electronic ignition lock [EZS] | If the LED goes out, programming in the EZS is completed.
3 | Switch on ignition | ||
4 | Wait approx. 90 min | Programming continues after the ignition has been switched off but is aborted if the ignition is switched on again, and then starts again from the beginning if it was not yet finished. |
