Check the spherical terminals of the steering column and connections for noises and clearances
Check the spherical terminals ZF without spring of the steering system
This service information has as purpose instruct the dealers network regarding the new checking procedures for the spherical terminals of the steering column and connection for noises and clearances. The respective checking procedures and special tools required are indicated in the document below.
Before start the intervention in the vehicle, make sure that all the required safety measurements are complied, according described in the documents referred in this Information.
PROCEDURES
Purpose
Define the inspection method for the steering terminals and check the wearing and clearances, as sell determine the need of their replacement in the vehicle.
Definitions
Type of terminal without spring (current version).
Axial clearance is the movement of the spherical pin in relation to the housing in the direction of its axle.
Sealing boot or protection cover is the component that protects the terminal from external impurities.
Sealing rings are responsible for holding the protection cover to the housing and to the spherical pin in order to assure the sealing boot sealing.
Rotational torque is the torque required to turn the spherical pin in its own axle.
| Inspection/Checking Document | ||
1 | General inspection | Corrosion in the housing or cover, cracks or holes in th rubber sealing boot, attachment of the sealing rings, correct position of the cotter pin, castle or self-locking nut seating. | |
2 | Check the wearing | Measure the axial clearance and check the rotational torque |
