Axial clearance checking |
1 | Park vehicle in a flat and leveled ground where you can execute tasks securely. |
2 | Attach dial indicator (2) magnetic base (1) in the steering arm or in any other fixed vehicle part and position indicator rod in the terminal end cover (3). |
3 | With a running engine, steer steering wheel slightly to the left and to the right, to create an actuation force on the steering and link bar. |
4 | Measurement in the indicator cannot exceed 2 mm. |
If ball stud clearance measured in the indicator is smaller than 0.15 mm, checking rotating torque is not mandatory. |

Rotating torque checking |
To check this, it is necessary to remove steering bar.
1 | Assemble nut (6) in the ball terminal (3) and block it with cotter pin, if it exists. |
B46.00-0044-01
2 | Fit an appropriate socket (5) together with torque wrench (4) in the nut (6). |
3 | Turn terminal ball stud (3) with a rotation of approximately 5 turns per minute, observing torsion moment indicated in the torque wrench display. |
Torsion moment should be above 1 Nm. If torsion moment measured is below 1 Nm, ball terminal should be replaced.
Ball stud maximum permitted torsion moment is 21 Nm. |
