Service Information: Retrofit installation of trailer hitch (AHV)

 Within the context of the liberalization of EU regulations, the legislator waives the inspection of a retrofitted trailer hitch (AHV) at an authorized test point (e.g. a TÜV facility).

 This presupposes:

 that the supplementary text "If mounted at the factory" has been entered in the registration papers (in section 33 to section 27: E1 00...).

 that an E1 test symbol has been attached to the trailer hitch.

For older vehicles or trailer hitches with a national test symbol (i.e. no E1 test symbol), retrofitted trailer hitches still must be inspected and approved at an authorized test point (e.g. a TÜV facility).
