Modification notes

17.4.06

Permissible gross vehicle weight changed, conversion deadline changed,

Due to recent events, we hereby inform you that as per the EC Directive 92/6 EEC, 2002/85/EC, vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.5 t to 12 t that are used to transport cargo must be equipped with a speed limiter set to a max. 90 km/h as of 01.01.2005.

Vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight of more than 7.5 t have had a maximum speed limit of 854 km/h up to now. In the future these vehicles will be allowed to drive at a maximum speed of 90 km/h as per the new EC Directive.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Exceptions to this EC Directive:

Military vehicles.

Civil protection vehicles.

Fire department vehicles.

Police vehicles.

Scientific research vehicles.

Vehicles which perform a public service within town limits.

All special vehicles that are not suitable for transporting cargo.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.5 to 7.5 t that were registered between 01.10.2001 and 01.01.2005 must have their maximum speed limited to 90 km/h by changing the parameters in the drive control (FR) using STAR DIAGNOSIS and chip card for 57b authorization.

The costs of modifying vehicles that were registered after 01.01.2005 but were manufactured before 01.01.2005 can be billed under damage code 53 799 ZZ.

The costs of modifying vehicles registered before 01.01.2005 must be paid for by the vehicle owners.

In Germany, all vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight of 3.5 to 7.5 t must be converted by 01.01.2006. Within the EU, the deadline can be extended to 01.01.2008 depending on the country in question.

Vehicles can be modified with STAR DIAGNOSIS CD 04 and higher.

After changing the parameters the "Certificate of modifying maximum speed limit to statutory regulations" available in WIS must be filled out and signed.

The completely filled out and signed certificate must be handed over to the inspector at the next inspection so that the change in the maximum speed limit can be entered into the vehicle registration certificate. Until then, this certificate must be kept on hand in the vehicle.

Converted vehicles must be identified by a red sticker in the bottom left-hand corner of the windshield.

The exact procedure for setting the parameters in the drive control (FR) to EC 90 can be found in work instructions
SM30.36-W-0001A.
