Service Information: Race for radial shaft sealing ring

Due to recent events we would like to notify you about the fact that engine 457.9, 458.9 with power take-off at the rear of the engine, has a modified crankshaft gear fitted to the crankshaft. This change means that during repair work, a race (2) with part number A000 032 00 09 and a width (a) of 16.5 mm now has to be fitted.

To mount the race (2) on the flange of the flywheel (1), the drift (3) and the adapter (4) with a width of 4.5 mm must be used. A distance (b) of 4.5 (+0.2) mm must be given between the race (2) and the surface of the flange on the flywheel (1).

 On no account must a race (2) with a width (a) of 21.0 mm be fitted during a repair, as otherwise the engine will be damaged.

 The standard version of the radial shaft sealing ring has a wider contact surface. This enables better sealing with lower wear at the sealing area of the flywheel (1) and therefore it should always be installed.

A race (2) and a radial shaft sealing ring with a larger inside diameter may only be mounted when significant galling occurs on the sealing surface of the flywheel's (1) flange.
