General
The soot particulate sensor determines the soot particulate concentration in the exhaust gas and derives from this the filtration efficiency of the soot particulate filter.
The soot particulate sensor control unit then processes the signals of the soot particulate sensor.
Function
The soot particulate sensor is designed as a zirconium-oxide (ZrO2) probe. It has an integrated heating element for periodical regeneration of the sensor and interdigital electrodes for determining the soot particle content in the exhaust. Exhaust cleaned of soot particles creates voltage between the interdigital electrodes here. Decisive for the determination of the soot particle content is the reaction time until a specified voltage threshold value is exceeded. In addition, a temperature sensor is integrated for monitoring the exhaust temperature; this forwards the current exhaust temperature to the combustion engine control unit by means of a change in resistance.
