Task

Controlling and storing the fuel pressure required for injection.

Function

The high pressure pump (19) pumps the fuel into the valve block (21/7) in line with the engine speed. The fuel flows from the valve block into one rail (21) each and from there along the high-ressure lines to the individual fuel injectors (Y76).

The valve block (21/7) and the respective rail (21) act as a high pressure reservoir.

The size of the cross-section in the pressure regulator valve (Y74) and quantity control valve (Y94) is altered in order to control the rail pressure.

The rail pressure sensor (B4/6) measures the current rail pressure and sends an appropriate voltage signal to the CDI control unit
(N3/9). The pressure control valve (Y74) or the quantity control valve (Y94) is then actuated through the CDI control unit (N3/9) in accordance with the specified pressure.
