The fuel high pressure pump (1) is located at the rear on the left side of the crankcase and is driven via the pinion gear drive.
Task
The fuel high pressure pump (1) has the task of increasing the fuel pressure from about 6 bar up to about 2400 bar.
Body
The fuel system high pressure pump (1) is designed as a 3-plunger pump. The plungers are respectively actuated over a double cam and, in this way, deliver the fuel made available by the quantity control valve (Y643) over a common high-pressure line in the rail. Lubrication of the fuel system high pressure pump (1) takes place over the oil circuit for the engine, made available over the flywheel housing. The oil return takes place over the drive side bearing point and drain bores in the camshaft for the fuel system high pressure pump back into the timing case.
Function
The fuel system high pressure pump (1) is driven over the pinion gear drive with a ratio of 1:1 to the engine. If the fuel feed pressure upstream of the fuel system high pressure pump (1) reaches about 1.2 bar, the pump elements in the suction stroke are equally filled with fuel over the intake valves of the fuel system high pressure pump (1). If the plunger compartment pressure exceeds the feed pressure during the delivery stroke, the respective intake valve closes and the pump element delivers the fuel over the now opened exhaust valve into the rail.
