General
The engine switch-off process is introduced when a corresponding switch-off request is present via the drive CAN (CAN 4). E.g on switching off the engine by accordingly actuating external engine start/stop (S600) or via the ignition lock.
Function
As soon as a corresponding switch-off request is available to the engine management control unit (MCM) (A4) via the drive CAN (CAN 4) or external engine start/stop (S600) is actuated when the engine is running, it interrupts actuation of the fuel injectors for cylinders 1 to 6 (Y608 to Y613). The fact that no further injection occurs means that the engine comes to a standstill and stops.
At engine oil temperatures below 70 °C, the engine brake is additionally activated so that the engine can "coast down" on switching off. At engine oil temperatures over 70 °C, it can therefore occur that the engine "vibrates" on switching off.
Switching off the engine with the battery disconnection switch (B33) is not recommended.
Switching off the engine with the battery disconnection switch (B33) must therefore only be used in an emergency.
